FEBRUARY 7, 2005

SPECIAL MEETING

Mayor Sohm welcomed and thanked everyone for attending the meeting.

Homer Smith, Family Worship Center gave the invocation.

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was said.

Mayor Sohm called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m.

In attendance were Council members Stacey Cline, Tony Miller, Margaret Moore, Faith Portman, Trina Summers and Alan Wetzel.

Trina Summers made motion to dispense with reading of 1/24/2005 regular meeting minutes. Stacey Cline 2nd. Motion carried 6-0.

Stacey Cline made motion to approve minutes as printed. Tony Miller 2nd. Motion carried 6-0.

Mayor Sohm introduced Major Dannye Allen with the Shepherdsville Fire Department who introduced the two new full time paid firefighters: Firefighter John Kilroy and Lt. Matt Smothers.

Mayor Sohm announced that City Night, sponsored by the Kentucky League of Cities was February 8th from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. If anyone is interested in attending meet at City Hall at 4:00 p.m.

Mayor Sohm announced there would be a Fish Fry at the Robinson Lodge, 6919 Applegate Lane on Saturday, March 19th from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. with the proceeds going to benefit the Rett Syndrome Research Foundation Strollathon. 

There were no Sewer, Historical, Transportation/Beautification or Recreation Committee reports.

Mr. Duane Price, 222 Beechwood Avenue, was present to address the Council about the insurance tax ordinance recently passed by the City. He stated he was on the Council when this ordinance was passed and what he did he did for the City of Shepherdsville. He stated he is aggravated by the County saying the City was unwilling to compromise. He stated the City tried to work out a compromise with the County and feels the City was forced into doing what it did because the County was unwilling to compromise.

Planning Commission Appointee Ben Robards was not present at this time.

Board of Adjustments Appointee Scott Isert was not present at the meeting.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent Mike Schroeder stated he had given a letter to each of the Council members regarding the sewer plant and the rates being charged to treat waste at the plant. He stated he feels he should move forward with increasing the rates at this time.

Mayor Sohm stated that the City was working with the Community Action Center to begin a program that would electronically call the elderly in the community. If the call is not acknowledged a call will be placed to someone who will be asked to check on the person. He stated the cost of the software was approximately $1,000-$2,000. Mayor Sohm also stated that the City has ordered two new trucks that will help with snow removal in the future. He stated the Sewer Department and Public Works Department both budgeted to purchase new trucks and they were ordered with a snow plow and salt spreader. He also stated we are two employees short in the Public Works Department; however we should have the equipment to do snow removal with the help of the sewer department employees. He thanked Councilwoman Margaret Moore for her insight in helping to alleviate snow removal problems we’ve had in the past.

Mayor Sohm asked for a motion to adjourn to executive session to discuss possible purchase of property and litigation. He also stated he would like to invite Jim Rice with Flynn Brothers into Executive Session to meet with the Council. Tony Miller made motion to adjourn to executive session. Faith Portman 2nd. Motion carried 6-0.

Tony Miller made motion to return to regular session. Alan Wetzel 2nd. Motion carried 6-0.

City Attorney Wantland stated that Counsel has been given instruction and will proceed accordingly. He stated no further action was taken.

Planning Commission Appointee Ben Robards was present at this time and reported there were two rezoning cases for Shepherdsville coming up. The cases are: Ronald Morton requesting 3.5 acres, more or less, located at 640 W Blue Lick Road from R-2 Residential to R-3 Residential. Rosalio Villa and Tonda Villa requesting one lot 85’ x 149’, located at 654 W Blue Lick Road from R-2 Residential to R-3 Residential.

Stacey Cline made motion to adjourn. Tony Miller 2nd. Motion carried 6-0. Meeting adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
