MINUTES REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

CITY OF SHEPHERDSVILLE

MONDAY, January 10, 2011

Officer Mike Miller gave the invocation

Pledge of Allegiance was recited

Mayor Ellis called the meeting to order at 6:28 p.m.

In attendance were Council members Bernie Brown, Don Cundiff, Bonnie Enlow, Larry Hatfield, Faith Portman and Alan Wetzel.

Mr. Wetzel made motion to dispense with reading of the minutes from the December 13, 2010 City Council meeting.  Mr. Hatfield 2nd.  Motion carried 6-0 absent. Mrs. Enlow made motion to approve the minutes. Mr. Cundiff 2nd.  Motion carried 6-0 absent.

Mayor Ellis announced that there will be a Meet and Greet the Mayor, City Council and Department Heads on January 13th at 6:30 p.m.

Old Business: None

New Business:

City Attorney John Cook read Resolution 011-001 authorizing BRAC funds. Mrs. Enlow made motion to approve. Mrs. Portman 2nd. Motion carried 6-0 absent.

Mayor Ellis asked for a motion to approve December bills. Mr. Hatfield stated that before we vote to pay the bills we need to decide how to pay them. He stated he feels we should hold off on approving payment until after we talk to the auditors; we can then have a special meeting to approve payment. Mr. Hatfield made motion to table paying December bills until after speaking with the auditors and looking at the financial situation of the City. Mr. Brown 2nd. Motion carried 6-0 absent. 

Planning & Zoning update- Daryl Lee: None

Board of Adjustment update- Duane Price: Nothing at this time. The next meeting is Thursday.

Departmental reports:

Fire Chief Brad Whittaker reported that the fire department computer upgrade has been completed and that Al Tronzo has accepted a full time position as Chief of Worthington Fire Department.

Council reports:  

Faith Portman asked about the streetlights at St. Andrews Crossing. We fill find out who purchased the development from the previous developer and make contact to get info to put streetlights in City’s name.

Larry Hatfield asked if employees whose spouses can get health insurance at their place of employment had notified the City to be taken off the City’s plan.  Some have been taken off and the others will come off when open enrollment at their place of employment comes up. Mr. Hatfield also asked about the police department now driving cars out of the County. Mayor Ellis approved this.

Bonnie Enlow congratulated Claude Middleton on his promotion to Public Works Foreman and stated we’re starting out rough but she feels we can get everything straightened out.

Don Cundiff stated that he is still getting complaints on Jay Jayz and asked the police department to keep monitoring.

Motion by Mrs. Portman to go into Executive Session to discuss personnel.  Mr. Wetzel 2nd.  Motion carried 6-0.  Adjourned to executive session at 6:40 p.m.

Motion by Mr. Wetzel to reconvene to regular session.  Mrs. Portman 2nd.  Motion carried 6-0.  Reconvened regular session at 7:30 p.m.

City Attorney John Cook stated there was no action taken at this time.

Mayor Ellis explained that the Flag was at half staff in honor of the victims of the tragedy in Tucson, AZ so proclaimed by President Obama.

Motion to adjourn by Mrs. Enlow. Mrs. Portman 2nd.   Motion carried 6-0. Meeting adjourned at 7:37 p.m.
