Mayor Sohm welcomed and thanked everyone for attending the meeting.

 

Pastor John Lehenbauer, Divine Savior Lutheran Church gave the invocation.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was said.

 

Mayor Sohm called the meeting to order at 6:34 p.m.

 

In attendance were Council members Stacey Cline, Tony Miller, Margaret Moore, Faith Portman, Trina Summers and Alan Wetzel.

 

Trina Summers made motion to dispense with reading of 3/27/2006 regular meeting minutes. Stacey Cline 2nd. Motion carried 6-0.

 

Stacey Cline made motion to approve minutes as printed. Trina Summers 2nd. Motion carried 6-0.

 

Mayor Sohm stated that Troy Fleming with Media Marketers was scheduled to make a presentation on the new web site but he was unable to attend the meeting.

 

Mayor Sohm introduced City Engineer Toby Spalding who introduced the City’s new Capital Projects Crew: Joe Exely, Engineering Technician, James Watkins, Capital Projects Superintendent, Junior Bright, Capital Projects Operator and John Morgan, Capital Projects Pipe Layer

 

Mayor Sohm announced that City Hall will be closed on Friday, April 14th in observance of Good Friday.

 

Mayor Sohm reminded everyone that the first Progress Meeting will be Monday, April 24th, 5:00 p.m. at City Hall.

 

Mayor Sohm asked Public Works Foreman Jesse Walls for an update on the fence at the Shepherdsville Cemetery. PWF Walls stated that the footers had been dup and poured for the fence.

 

Mayor Sohm asked the Council to get him a list of city streets that need repair or repaved as soon as possible.

 

Mayor Sohm stated there was no report from the Recreation Committee.

 

City Attorney Joe Wantland read Resolution 06-007; A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Shepherdsville, Kentucky acknowledging the need to apply for a grant for Phase II of the Recreational Trails Grant to promote good health and enjoyment for the members of the City. Trina Summers made motion to approve. Faith Portman 2nd. Motion carried 6-0.

 

City Attorney Wantland read Resolution 06-008, Series 2006; A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Shepherdsville, Kentucky acknowledging the need to apply for a grant for improvements to the Shepherdsville Cemetery, a pre-Civil War Cemetery of the City of Shepherdsville. Trina Summers made motion to approve. Margaret Moore 2nd. Motion carried 6-0. 

 

City Attorney Wantland read Proclamation proclaiming May 2006 as Motorcycle Awareness Month.

City Attorney Wantland had first reading of Ordinance 006-(number to be assigned) on rezoning request from Joiner’s Drywall LLC to rezone 3.40 acres, more or less, from R-1 Residential to B-1 Highway Business. The property is located on the west side of

S Preston Highway
abutting the north property line of Insight Cable Company. Mayor Sohm stated the next reading will be April 24th.

 

Planning Commission Appointee Ben Robards had nothing new to report.

 

Board of Adjustments Appointee Scott Isert was not present at the meeting.

 

Engineer Spalding reported that the Capital Projects Crew started working on the drainage problem at The Pointe today. He also stated that he had looked at Wilbur Raymond’s property and he’s not sure where the problem is in the upper area. He stated in the lower area Louisville Water Company will furnish the pipe if the City workers can do the work. He stated that would be the next project started.

 

Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent Mike Schroeder stated he had given the Council some information on a Vactor Truck. He stated that the Metropolitan Sewer District had taken bids and that the City could piggy back on the prices given to MSD. He stated the truck he would like to buy is from Deeds Equipment Company for $166,663.00. Mayor Sohm stated that $180,000 had been budgeted for the truck several years ago.

 

Councilwoman Stacey Cline stated she had received a call from someone and would like to know how to get in touch with John Bradley. Police Chief Ron Morris told her to call the Police Department and leave a message.

 

Councilwoman Trina Summers asked about the house on 480 that burned cleaned up. She stated it has become a hazard. Mayor Sohm stated he would ask Fire Chief Robbie Spriggs to write an order to remedy.

 

Councilwoman Margaret Moore stated we need to get a marker put up telling where the Cemetery is. Mayor Sohm stated he thought this was a great idea. He stated we could put the marker on 1st or

2nd Street
.

 

Mayor Sohm asked for a motion to adjourn to executive session to discuss litigation. Faith Portman made motion to adjourn to executive session. Alan Wetzel 2nd. Motion carried 6-0.

 

Trina Summers made motion to return to regular session. Tony Miller 2nd. Motion carried 6-0.

 

Mayor Sohm stated he was proud to present the model of the new Fire, Police, and Government Center Building. He stated it was scheduled to be open by the end of July.

 

Councilwoman Margaret Moore asked about the left turn lane on

Adam Shepherd Parkway
. She stated there have been several complaints about this. Mayor Sohm stated he hoped to have an announcement regarding that turn lane by the end of the week.

 

Faith Portman made motion to adjourn. Alan Wetzel 2nd. Motion carried 6-0. Meeting adjourned at 7:52 p.m.
