Mayor Sohm welcomed and thanked everyone for attending the meeting.

 

Pastor John Lehenbauer, Divine Savior Lutheran Church gave the invocation.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was said.

 

Mayor Sohm called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m.

 

In attendance were Council members Stacey Cline, Margaret Moore, Faith Portman and Trina Summers.

 

Stacey Cline made motion to dispense with reading of 5/8/2006 regular meeting minutes. Trina Summers 2nd. Motion carried 4-0.

 

Trina Summers made motion to approve minutes as printed. Faith Portman 2nd. Motion carried 4-0.

 

Mayor Sohm announced that he had met with Reverend Lehenbauer and a representative from the Outreach Center and they are looking for a new home for their facility. They have outgrown their present location and need a larger space. Mayor Sohm stated if anyone has any ideas on a new location please let him know.

 

Mayor Sohm announced that City Hall would be closed Monday, May 29th in observance of Memorial Day.  

 

City Engineer Toby Spalding had no report from the Progress Meeting. He stated that at the next meeting on June 26th there should be plenty to report on since the project started today.

 

Mayor Sohm reported from the Historical Committee that the fence was finished at

1st Street
Cemetery and the rock would be put on next week. He stated the archway and gates were also up and that it looks very good.

 

Mayor Sohm stated there were no reports from the Transportation/Beautification, Recreation or Sewer Committees.

 

City Attorney Wantland read Resolution 06-009 acknowledging funds from the Commonwealth of Kentucky to provide body armor to the local law enforcement through the “Kentucky Body Armor Program”. Trina Summers made motion to adopt Resolution 06-009. Faith Portman 2nd. Motion carried 4-0.

 

City Attorney Wantland had first reading of Ordinance 006-(number to be assigned) proposing annexation of unincorporated territory adjoining the City of Shepherdsville (Owned by S & F Investments). Attorney Wantland stated this is a consensual annexation. Mayor Sohm stated this includes the last 100 feet of

Conestoga Parkway
and the northeast corner of the property.

 

Stacey Cline made motion to pay May bills. Trina Summers 2nd. Motion carried 4-0.

 

Planning Commission Appointee Ben Robards was not present at the meeting at this time.

 

Board of Adjustments Appointee Scott Isert was not present at the meeting.

City Engineer Toby Spalding stated he had bid out stone needed for the interceptor project and received two bids; one from Quality Stone ($10.82/ton) and one from Bullitt County Stone ($12.24/ton). He recommended using Quality Stone for the approximately 18,000 tons that will be needed. Stacey Cline made motion to accept the recommendation to use Quality Stone. Trina Summers 2nd. Motion carried 4-0. Toby also stated he had bid out the off road diesel fuel and received one bid from A & M Oil Company for $2.42/gallon as of 5/9/05. Prices will fluctuate with price change but he recommends using A & M Oil Company. They will supply a 550 gallon tank and pump and will probably fill up twice a week. Assistant Fire Chief Terry Whittaker asked Toby where the tank was going to be kept. Toby answered that it will be kept inside the treatment plant.

 

Assistant Chief Whittaker also asked the Council to think about regulating charitable and not for profit collections on the corner of Highway 44 and 61. He stated it would be of the opinion that something should be done. He feels that money collected here should stay here. Mayor Sohm stated he would support something to limit collections and time of collections. He asked the City Clerk to contact the Kentucky League of Cities to see if there were sample ordinances available to look at. It was suggested to possibly use a permit process to help limit collections.

 

Councilwoman Trina Summers asked about the Paroquet Springs sign. Mayor Sohm stated we are waiting on the paperwork from the Transportation Cabinet.

 

Trina Summers made motion to adjourn. Stacey Cline 2nd. Motion carried 4-0. Meeting adjourned at 6:59 p.m.
