Fire Department
Shepherdsville Fire Department provides service from two fire stations, protecting the 12.5 sq mile city of Shepherdsville, KY. Currently our Department depends on the services of a combination of trained career and volunteer firefighters. We currently employ 12 full time firefighters who work rotating 24 hour shifts, 3 part time firefighters who work rotating 12 hour shifts, a full time Fire Marshall, and a full time Fire Chief. We also have 2 Volunteer command officers and 23 Volunteer Firefighters. Our Fire Department responds to a variety of incidents including fires, motor vehicle accidents, hazardous materials spills, gas emergencies, medical emergencies, and technical rescue incidents such as water and ice rescue, confined space rescue, vehicle extrication, etc. Shepherdsville Fire Dept has the only fully equipped swift water rescue team in Bullitt County. Last year we rescued 7 individuals from Bullitt County’s waterways. We have a fleet of four boats and a special operations command post loaded with all of the necessary rescue equipment for these situations. In Addition to emergency response, we assist the City with fire and building code enforcement and provide inspections for business occupancies. We also participate in the annual WHAS Crusade For Children in the Spring, Trunk or Treat in the Fall, and many other community events throughout the year.
SFD responded to 669 calls in 2012 and it took everyone working together to make it a safe year. A special thanks to our members, our families and the surrounding departments!
Fire Prevention
Have a Sound Fire Escape Plan
In the event of a fire, remember – time is the biggest enemy and every second counts! Escape plans help you get out of your home quickly. In less than 30 seconds a small flame can get completely out of control and turn into a major fire. It only takes minutes for a house to fill with thick black smoke and become engulfed in flames.
Once Out, Stay Out
Remember to escape first, then notify the fire department using the 911 system or proper local emergency number in your area. Never go back into a burning building for any reason. Teach children not to hide from firefighters. Just remember that property can be replaced, a person cannot. If someone is missing, tell the firefighters. They are equipped to perform rescues safely.
